Softball Recap: Decatur Beats Crisfield for Their Third Straight Victory

Decatur had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Crisfield Crabbers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Seahawks have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kirby Bounds was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Decatur let Riley Hertzog and Bailey Griffin run wild. Hertzog went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, while Griffin went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three runs gave Hertzog a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Snelsire, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.

Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Decatur's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Crisfield, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Decatur will look to defend their home field on Monday against Bennett at 4:00 p.m. As for Crisfield, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wicomico at 4:00 p.m. on May 6.
