Football Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Stony Point Tigers

McNeil and Stony Point are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Mavericks will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, McNeil lost to Round Rock on the road by a 31-17 margin.

Despite their loss, McNeil saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jadon Sultz, who rushed for 58 yards and one TD, and also threw for 166 yards and one touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. 83 of those passing yards were hauled in by Brian Perkins.

Meanwhile, Stony Point came up short against Vista Ridge last Thursday and fell 31-21. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McNeil will have to contain Mason Troyer as he made an impact in Stony Point's last game. He threw for 340 yards and a pair of TDs. Trystin Rimes was another key pass catcher, picking up 105 receiving yards and one score.

Stony Point's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for McNeil, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.

McNeil took their win against Stony Point in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 55-30 score. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
