Baseball Recap: Smoky Valley Vikings vs. Hoisington Cardinals
Smoky Valley extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-16 in the process. They lost 16-1 to the Hoisington Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 on Thursday.
Smoky Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Opat, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
As for Hoisington, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Hoisington's side, Tyrus Penka was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Penka a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Lane French was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brodie Crites, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Smoky Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hoisington, they are taking a road trip to face off against Lyons on Tuesday.
