Soccer Game Preview: Santa Fe South vs. Lawton

The Santa Fe South Saints will head out on the road to face off against the Lawton Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Santa Fe South has three straight wins, Lawton has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Santa Fe South had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the seven-goal drubbing they dealt Altus on Tuesday. The Saints' defense stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Santa Fe South, who have now won seven games by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lawton came up short against Southeast on Tuesday, falling 5-1. While losing is never fun, Lawton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma soccer rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Southeast are ranked seventh).

Santa Fe South pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for Lawton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
