Softball Recap: Community Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Community came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over the Mt. Pleasant Tigers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Gracie Daniel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Carlie Blanton was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Aliana Leverette was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in five consecutive games.

Community's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Mt. Pleasant, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Community has already played their next contest (against Zion Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Mt. Pleasant, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mt. Pleasant Tigers challenge Wayne County Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
