Softball Game Preview: Beaver Local Beavers vs. Struthers Wildcats

The Beaver Local Beavers will square off against the Struthers Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Beaver Local has ten straight victories, Struthers has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Beaver Local's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Minerva.

The result came thanks to Addie Thurik's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Calleigh Eells was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ally Wright, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Struthers lost 19-4 to Windham on Tuesday.

Giavanna Smiley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Beaver Local pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Struthers, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Everything went Beaver Local's way against Struthers in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Beaver Local made off with a 14-4 victory. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
