Basketball Preview: Cumberland County Jets vs. Stone Memorial Panthers
Cumberland County and the Panthers are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Cumberland County Jets will head out on the road to take on the Stone Memorial Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Cumberland County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Warriors on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to the Warriors. Cumberland County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Stone Memorial's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 73-56 to White County. While losing is never fun, Stone Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Warriors are ranked 12th).
Cumberland County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Stone Memorial, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Everything went Cumberland County's way against the Panthers when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the Jets made off with a 63-38 victory. Does Cumberland County have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
