Football Recap: Bloomington Bruins vs. Corona Panthers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Perris, Bloomington was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Corona Panthers 42-40. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bruins considering their six-point performance the matchup before.
Bloomington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ricardo Sanchez out in front who rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Andre Clark was in the mix as well, providing Bloomington with a fumble recovery touchdown touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Bloomington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 363 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corona only rushed for 29.
Bloomington's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Elijah Maldonado, Sanchez, and Christian Marmolejo picked up one apiece. Corona lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elijah Marshall, who picked up 104 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Richard Wilkins also helped out as he racked up 176 receiving yards.
