Softball Game Preview: Franklin County Tech Eagles vs. Blackstone Valley RVT Beavers

The Franklin County Tech Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Blackstone Valley RVT Beavers at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin County Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Franklin County Tech easily dispatched Pioneer Valley Regional on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Eagles fell just short of Hopkins Academy by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Hannah Gilbert put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Gilbert wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kylee Gamache, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Norton hit Blackstone Valley RVT with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Beavers took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers.

Franklin County Tech's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Blackstone Valley RVT, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Franklin County Tech beat Blackstone Valley RVT 7-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
