Volleyball Game Recap: Jefferson Saints vs. Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Ocelotls

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Jefferson, but Mariana Botello wouldn't allow it. The Saints came out on top against the Ocelotls by a score of 3-1 on Thursday with plenty of help from Botello, who had 16 aces and five digs. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played.

Jefferson had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-8.

Jefferson found their leader in sophomore Botello, who had 16 aces and five digs. Avoni Sauzo also set a new season-high mark in aces with six. Another player making a difference was Rosalii Martinez, who had four digs and three aces.

Jefferson was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 31 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Rocky Mountain Prep SMART, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Jefferson will head out to square off against Arrupe Jesuit at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The game will give the Saints their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Rocky Mountain Prep SMART, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Stargate School on the 5th.
