Basketball Recap: Kennett Takes a Loss

Kennett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the East Carter Redbirds, falling 70-48. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Redbirds earlier this season, when they won 60-56.

Despite the defeat, Kennett saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alyce Edwards went 11 of 24 on her way to 31 points and three steals. That was a full 64.6% of Kennett's points, marking the 21st time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Ellis, who put up six points in addition to 15 boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Kennett was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kennett now has a losing record at 10-11. As for East Carter, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennett has already played their next contest (against Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. East Carter will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Alton at 6:00 p.m. on February 17th.
