Baseball Game Preview: Northwest Christian School Crusaders vs. Davenport Gorillas

For the second straight game, Northwest Christian School will face off against Davenport. The Crusaders will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Gorillas at 12:00 p.m. Northwest Christian School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Northwest Christian School will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Davenport on Tuesday. The Crusaders were the clear victors by a 27-1 margin over the Gorillas. The Crusaders have beaten the Gorillas the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Gorillas has come to flipping the script.

Kaden VanDyke made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. VanDyke was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Drew Bevan was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Northwest Christian School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Chase Mortlock was another key player, getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Northwest Christian School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northwest Christian School's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Davenport, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.
