Desert Edge dropped down to 10-12 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-2 to the Arizona College Prep Knights. The Scorpions were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Knights' pitcher proved too tough.
Desert Edge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Azerae Cantrell (2027), who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Arizona College Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Arizona College Prep's side, Ava Moynihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. Moynihan has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Arizona College Prep got a massive performance out of Abby Deering, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Deering is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Sherman, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
