League recap: Thomas Jefferson blown out by Holy Family

3A Northern recap October 8, 2013

Thomas Jefferson lost to Holy Family 39-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Frederick made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,513 from 4,194. The improvement was largely due to a 21-7 victory over Erie last week.

Centaurus's dynamic duo of John Howard and Matt Buchler proved tough for Denver North to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Howard threw for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns and Buchler had 75 yards receiving. Shane Albertson helped Centaurus' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 24 yards.

The Tigers' David Sommers and Matthew Erb have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A Northern in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Sommers has thrown for 816 yards this season, while Erb has 26 catches for 428 yards. Joe Ramey from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 688 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Erie takes on Holy Family. Larry Gartrell's team is currently in third, while Michael Gabriel's team is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when the Tigers and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Erie comes in having scored 133 this season, while Holy Family has scored 152. The Tigers scored 7 points last week as they fell to the Warriors.

The Warriors led the league in scoring this week by notching 40 points on the Vikings. Howard during the win.
