Softball Recap: Wrightstown Drops Season-High Score on Waupaca

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wrightstown). They blew past the Waupaca Comets 19-9 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won seven in a row.

Sophia Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Wrightstown got a massive performance out of Layla Beyer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Beyer has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryn Amundson, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Wrightstown lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Wrightstown's record now sits at 14-7. As for Waupaca, they dropped their record down to 4-15 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Wrightstown will welcome Xavier at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waupaca, they will head out on the road to challenge Iola-Scandinavia at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Comets will need to watch out since the Thunderbirds have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
