Baseball Recap: Van Wert Takes a Loss

If Van Wert was riding high fresh off their 15-3 takedown of Fort Loramie on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars fell 8-5 to the Wayne Trace Raiders on Monday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Trevor Halker and Finley Dickinson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Halker went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Dickinson went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Van Wert is 2-1 when Dickinson posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Camdyn Werts also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Van Wert has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Wayne Trace, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Van Wert will square off against Celina at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wayne Trace, they will take on Hicksville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
