Basketball Recap: Deer Trail Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Genoa-Hugo/Karval, Deer Trail was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against Pikes Peak Christian by a score of 39-31. The win was some much needed relief for Deer Trail as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Deer Trail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Allena Sanchez-Neal, who posted 20 points along with eight boards and seven steals. That's the most points Sanchez-Neal has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Donovan, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Deer Trail smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. They are 6-3 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Pikes Peak Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bella Fletcher, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points and three blocks, and Megan Ferguson, who earned two points and six boards. That was a full 41.9% of Pikes Peak Christian's points, marking the third time in a row Fletcher has had more than a third of the team's points.

Deer Trail's record now sits at 6-13. As for Pikes Peak Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Deer Trail has already played their next game, a 54-21 defeat against Burlington on the 20th. As for Pikes Peak Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 44-27 loss against South Park on the 20th.
