Softball Recap: Northland Pines Comes Up Short

Northland Pines extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 29 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-22 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Amherst Falcons. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Amherst, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

For Amherst's part, Sam Nooyen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. Nooyen has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on McKenna Orsund, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ivy Boelk, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

As of now, neither Northland Pines nor Amherst have any future games scheduled.
