Basketball Recap: Wheatland Bulldogs vs. Douglas Bearcats
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wheatland can now relate to. They took a 56-38 bruising from the Douglas Bearcats on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-32 last Thursday.
When it comes to explaining why Wheatland lost, don't look at Lily Anderson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. What's more, Anderson also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella Keil, who posted seven points.
Lauren Olsen was her usual excellent self, shooting 59% from the field on her way to 33 points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals for Douglas. Olsen has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 41 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Wright, who earned 12 points along with five boards and three steals.
Wheatland's defeat dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Douglas, the victory (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 23-1.
Wheatland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-40 win against Glenrock on the 8th. As for Douglas, they have also already played their next contest, a 61-27 victory against Torrington on the 8th.
