Baseball Recap: Grissom Comes Up Short

Grissom fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Hueytown on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hueytown Golden Gophers by a score of 8-6. The Tigers just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Charlie Cassingham put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Zach Shipp made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Grissom's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Hueytown, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Looking ahead, Grissom will take on Randolph School at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Randolph School has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.29 runs per game on average), something Grissom will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hueytown, they will venture away from home to challenge Mortimer Jordan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
