Basketball Recap: Wharton Drops Highest Score of Season Against East Bernard

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wharton). They snuck past the East Bernard Brahmas with a 55-49 victory on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Tigers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1258th, while the Brahmas are ranked 425th).

When it comes to explaining why East Bernard lost, don't look at Ashlynn Lemos. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 16 on her way to 23 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That was a full 46.9% of East Bernard's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Thomas, who had six points and four steals.

Wharton's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for East Bernard, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-7.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Alvarado the next time they take the court. Wharton will head out to face Alvarado at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while East Bernard will head out to face them at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
