Softball Recap: Cuba/Spoon River Valley Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Cuba/Spoon River Valley duked it out with Illini Bluffs on Thursday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Kacie White was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

White wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Thum, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Cuba/Spoon River Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Illini Bluffs, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6.

Looking ahead, Cuba/Spoon River Valley will welcome Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Illini Bluffs, they have already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Olympia on the 16th.
