Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Longmont Trojans
Greeley West is 0-4 against Longmont since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Greeley West Spartans will look to defend their home court against the Longmont Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Greeley West's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Greeley Central on the road and fell 76-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Greeley West has suffered since November 30, 2023.
Loss or not, Greeley West got some senior leadership from Jacob Flores and Andrew Zepeda. Flores scored 14 points along with nine rebounds, while Zepeda. scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Longmont was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 46-45 to Holy Family.
Longmont's loss came about despite a quality game from Levi Scheck, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Levi Varga, who scored two points.
Greeley West bumped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Longmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Greeley West have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4 threes per game. It's a different story for Longmont, though, as they've been averaging only 5.1 threes per game. Given Greeley West's sizeable advantage in that area, Longmont will need to find a way to close that gap.
Greeley West was dealt a bruising 77-23 loss at the hands of Longmont when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Greeley West was down 33-10.
