Baseball Game Preview: Pieper Warriors vs. La Vernia Bears

The Pieper Warriors will venture away from home to take on the La Vernia Bears at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pieper's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so La Vernia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pieper will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Wagner on Tuesday. Pieper came out on top against Wagner by a score of 10-6. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won six in a row.

Aiden Shreve tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.

On the hitting side, Charles Garrison was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Derek Martinez was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Pieper always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wagner only posted an OBP of .353.

Meanwhile, La Vernia waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 7-1 win. The matchup marked the Bears' most dominant victory of the season so far.

La Vernia let Cash Howton and Vincent Capparelli run wild. Howton scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Capparelli scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Capparelli snagged this season.

Pieper pushed their record up to 5-2-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for La Vernia, their record now sits at 4-2.
