Gillespie lost to Marquette Catholic back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Miners had just enough and edged out the Explorers 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Miners as they're now sitting on five straight.

Owen Schweppe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.

At the plate, Gillespie's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Braden Reich, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Gillespie's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13.

Looking ahead, Gillespie will be playing in front of their home fans against Litchfield at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marquette Catholic, they will head out on the road to challenge East Alton-Wood River at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
