Recap: Greeley West Spartans vs. Northridge Grizzlies
The Greeley West Spartans had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Northridge by a score of 68-56 on Thursday. Greeley West's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Greeley West had a senior duo take command as Andrew Zepeda scored 27 points along with six steals and River Ortiz scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Zepeda has scored at least 25% of Greeley West's points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Florez, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Northridge saw an underclassman step up: Drake Walker scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. The game was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Lincoln Lyons was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Greeley West's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for Northridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
Greeley West won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Laramie at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. One thing working in Laramie's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Northridge will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fort Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
