Basketball Class of 2012 Top 100

By Jason Hickman May 1, 2011, 10:00pm

Connecticut post man Andre Drummond remains at the top of super-sized crop of rising seniors.

Post players over 6-foot-8 own five of the top six spots in MaxPreps.com's updated Class of 2012 Top 100, headlining a deep year for big men.

Remaining at the top of the list is 6-10, 250-pound Andre Drummond. The uncommitted center was a key member of the United States' gold medal squad last summer at the FIBA U17 World Championship and posted 15 points, 11 boards and four blocks per game last season in what was essentially his senior season at St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.). He is expected to return to the program as a post-graduate next year.

No. 2 Isaiah Austin – a 7-footer committed to Baylor – has tantalized observers with his versatile skill set since his freshman year. If the Grace Prep (Arlington, Texas) product puts it all together and begins to deliver consistently, he has the potential to challenge Drummond's claim to the top spot.

The highest-ranked guard in the class is Shabazz Muhammad of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) at No. 3. He averaged 25.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a junior for the Gaels.

Rounding out the top five are 6-8, 280-pound DaJuan Coleman of Jamesville-DeWitt (DeWitt, N.Y.) and 6-10, 240-pound Cameron Ridley of Fort Bend Bush (Richmond, Texas), a Texas Longhorn verbal commitment.

An incredible 39 of the 100 prospects listed are over 6-8, including oversized guards and wings like Kyle Anderson (No. 18), Evan Nolte (No. 34) and Rosco Allen (No. 80).

Plenty of recruiting drama lies ahead for 2012's elite as just 32 of the Top 100 have made commitments.

The Top 100 is a composite look at the nation's top prospects based on high school success and production, as well as potential at the collegiate level and beyond.
