Basketball Recap: Mesilla Valley Christian School Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Mesilla Valley Christian School, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 43-37 victory over the Lordsburg Mavericks on Thursday. For the SonBlazers, this counts as revenge for the 52-31 win the Mavericks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

Mesilla Valley Christian School's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avalyn Dwyer, who posted 17 points and five rebounds. Dwyer is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Jordan Schumer also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Despite the loss, Lordsburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dani Esquivel went 6 for 15 to rack up 17 points. Esquivel also set a new season-high mark in three-point shooting accuracy with 43%. Another player making a difference was Natalie Guerrero, who put up eight points and six boards.
