Basketball Recap: Tennessee Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Tennessee had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.1 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They secured a 70-64 W over the Unicoi County Blue Devils. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tennessee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colin Brown, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 23 points and eight assists. The match was Brown's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zander Phillips, who went 5 of 9 en route to 16 points.

Despite the loss, Unicoi County still got an impressive performance from Koda Cutlip, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 25 points. Those 25 points gave Cutlip a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaden Cutlip, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points.

Tennessee is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Unicoi County, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-10.

Tennessee will head out to square off against Elizabethton at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tennessee knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Elizabethton likes a good challenge. As for Unicoi County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-51 victory against Happy Valley on the 1st.
