West Middlesex is 1-6 against Greenville since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Big Reds will face off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. West Middlesex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
West Middlesex fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mercer on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3.
Roman Golub and Tyler Blanton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Golub went 3-for-5 with three doubles and one RBI, while Blanton got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Greenville unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clarion Area.
Jacob Csonka put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Csonka was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brandon Stubert made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
West Middlesex's record now sits at 10-7. As for Greenville, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 13-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Middlesex has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
