League recap: Covington Catholic tops Johnson Central to extend winning streak

Covington Catholic extended the longest winning streak in 4A District 7 this week by beating Johnson Central, 42-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Highlands took down Ashland Blazer 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Covington Catholic's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ben Dressman threw for 56 and 1 touchdown and Mitchell Rensing had 30 yards receiving. On the ground Luke Bir contributed 191 yards. Bir helped Covington Catholic's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 26 yards.

David Wirth's team's dynamic duo of Dressman and Rensing proved tough for the Golden Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bir helped Covington Catholic's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 26 yards.

Harrison County's Robbie Stroub and Justin Hunter have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Stroub has thrown for 1,818 yards this season, while Hunter has 44 catches for 776 yards. Dressman from the Colonels leads the league in rushing with 807 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Covington Catholic and the Bluebirds. The Colonels enters the game ranked eighth in the state, while Highlands ranks fifth.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Covington Catholic takes on Dale Mueller's team. The Colonels have allowed 184 points this season, while the Bluebirds have given up 251. Covington Catholic allowed 14 points last week as it topped Johnson Central.

The Colonels made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 549 from 983. The improvement was largely due to a 42-14 victory over Jim Matney's team last week.
