Football Game Preview: New Bern Bears vs. Overhills Jaguars + Official Tickets

New Bern is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Overhills a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The New Bern Bears will look to defend their home field against the Overhills Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. New Bern will be strutting in after a victory while Overhills will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Thursday, New Bern didn't have too much trouble with South Central as they won 21-3. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won seven in a row.

Karvin Magwood had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 127 yards and one touchdown. He has become a key player for New Bern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 2-5 otherwise. Rylan Copeland did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something New Bern proved: they limited South Central to a paltry 1.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Amari Reddick for the heroic effort on defense: he. New Bern didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.

New Bern's defense didn't let Jaylen Butts, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Reddick, Devon Grant, and Kamden Sampson, who each picked up one sack apiece. New Bern got some further help from Reddick: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles.

Meanwhile, Overhills played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 35-0 loss at the hands of Pine Forest. The shutout was out of character for the Jaguars seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in September.

The victory got New Bern back to even at 5-5. As for Overhills, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
