Baseball Recap: Derby's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Derby had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-15 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Golden Eagles back in April, they had to take a 6-1 loss.

Derby's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Trainer, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Talon Cunningham also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Bishop Carroll, their record is now 16-5. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Bishop Carroll's side, they got a good showing from KJ McGill, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McGill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Niedens was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Derby will square off against Maize South on Friday. As for Bishop Carroll, they will face off against North at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The RedHawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.89 runs per game on average), something the Golden Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
