League recap: Priest River beats St. Maries in tight affair

Priest River and St. Maries played the most hotly contested game in 3A Intermountain this week, with Priest River eventually emerging with a 27-24 victory. Cameron Riley threw for 189 yards and ran for 189 yards in the win.

The Spartans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,265 from 11,395. The improvement came about via a 27-24 victory over the Lumberjacks last week.

Priest River's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dallas Hopkins helped Priest River's passing attack out by catching three balls for 61 yards.

Jalen Griffin was the best wideout in the league this week as Shane Douglas's team bested St. Maries. Griffin tallied six receptions for 67 yards.

Priest River's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Spartans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Riley has thrown for 1138 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while RC Akre has 35 catches for 420 yards. Riley also leads the league in rushing with 646 yards.

Two of the top units in 3A Intermountain will face off this week when the Spartans take on Kellogg. Priest River's offense has scored 144 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Wildcats have allowed only 316 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Spartans take on Kellogg. Priest River is currently in first, while Tyrel Hendrix's team is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Timberlake takes on Bonners Ferry. The Tigers have allowed 127 points this season, while the Badgers have given up 169.
