Recap: North Gaston Wildcats vs. Crest Chargers
The North Gaston Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Crest on the road and fell 82-52. While losing is never fun, North Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Crest is ranked 34th).
North Gaston's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Markell Carothers, who scored 22 points along with two steals, and Max Huggins who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Carothers hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Bryson Blanton, who scored six points.
King Rhodes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Crest, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Rhodes has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Lyrik Pettis was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
North Gaston bumped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Crest, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
North Gaston will be playing at home against South Point at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Point has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 327 points over their last five games. As for Crest, they will head out on the road to face off against Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kings Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
