Volleyball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Southern Wells

Southern Wells hadn't done well against Adams Central recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Raiders walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Flying Jets. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Southern Wells was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20.

Southern Wells got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bailey Jenkins out in front who had 16 digs and one assist. Those 16 digs gave Jenkins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbie Powell, who hit 63.6% for 23 kills and 14 digs, four aces, and three blocks.

Southern Wells was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in four consecutive matches.

Southern Wells' win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 16-14. As for Adams Central, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-15.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Southern Wells will take on Wes-Del at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Adams Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Union County at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
