Volleyball Recap: Oxford Wolverines vs. Torrington Raiders

Oxford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell just short of the Torrington Raiders by a score of 3-2. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September.

Oxford actually scored more points across those five sets (109-104), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 26-28, 13-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Even though they lost, Oxford was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 17 aces in three consecutive matches.

Torrington can attribute much of their success to Carla Marte Ortiz, who had 12 digs.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Torrington, their record now sits at 6-11.

Oxford will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Bunnell at 6:30 p.m. As for Torrington, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Wolcott on the 21st.
