Basketball Recap: Spruce Comes Up Short

Spruce was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by the North Mesquite Stallions and fell 52-12. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1284th, while the Stallions are ranked 561st).

North Mesquite found their leader in freshman Syniyah Grigsby, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Grigsby has scored at least a third of North Mesquite's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haven Crabb, who posted five points and four steals.

Spruce's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for North Mesquite, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-13.

Spruce has already played their next contest (against Samuell), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. North Mesquite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-27 win against Seagoville on the 14th.
