Softball Game Preview: Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres vs. Moorhead Spuds

The Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres will face off against the Moorhead Spuds at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sartell-St. Stephen is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Sartell-St. Stephen's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Alexandria 6-0. The Sabres might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Sartell-St. Stephen saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Reese Koosmann was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Moorhead beat Bemidji 9-5 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spuds.

Kenadi Kays spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Madden Bogenreif was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellsey Kludt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Sartell-St. Stephen's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Moorhead, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Sartell-St. Stephen beat Moorhead 5-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Sabres repeat their success, or do the Spuds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
