Softball Game Preview: Flintridge Prep Wolves vs. Providence Pioneers

Flintridge Prep hasn't had much luck against Providence recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wolves will venture away from home to take on the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Flintridge Prep is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Flintridge Prep proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Polytechnic 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted against the Panthers since April 17, 2018.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Providence nor Chadwick made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pioneers blew past the Dolphins 11-3. Considering the Pioneers have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Madelynn Watts made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Evangelina Aleman was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gloria Galindo, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Flintridge Prep pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Providence, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Flintridge Prep beat Providence 10-5 in their previous meeting on April 9th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
