Softball Game Preview: Van Wert Cougars vs. Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds

The Van Wert Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Van Wert couldn't beat Shawnee on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Cougars fell just short of the Indians by a score of 8-7. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Cougars' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Layla Sudduth made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Wise, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Lima Central Catholic lost 20-5 to Elida on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Lima Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Van Wert, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-4.
