Newport Harbor came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Fountain Valley Barons. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 10-9 win on Wednesday.

Lucas Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Perez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Guy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Adam Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Newport Harbor's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fountain Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
