Baseball Game Preview: Iroquois Braves vs. Union City Bears

The Iroquois Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Union City Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Iroquois has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 15 straight losses, while Union City will come in with five straight wins.

Monday just wasn't the day for Iroquois' offense. They lost 15-0 to Mercyhurst Prep on Monday. Considering the last time the Braves couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Union City came out on top against Eisenhower on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run second inning. The Bears were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Knights. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

Trevin Capela made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Wright, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ian Kinney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Union City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Union City's record is now 5-2. As for Iroquois, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Iroquois came up short against Union City in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 14-9. Can the Braves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
