Basketball Recap: River City Comes Up Short

After flying high against Woodland on Wednesday, River City came back down to earth. The River City Raiders had to suffer through a 75-39 loss at the hands of the Venture Academy Mustangs. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Venture Academy was led to victory by Jayden Fakhouri and Jabril Lewis-Muhammad. Fakhouri shot 4-for-7 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, while Lewis-Muhammad went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Fakhouri is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Delonnie Bague, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

River City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Venture Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

River City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-23 loss against Vista del Lago on the 20th. As for Venture Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-49 win against Golden Valley on the 20th.
