Eaglets head into 2023 season within nine victories of tying the Michigan state record of 75 by Homer.
With back-to-back state championships and an undefeated 44-0 season in 2022,
St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) enters the 2023 high school baseball season with 66 straight wins and state and national records in their sights.
The 66 straight wins ranks No. 7 all-time, putting the Eaglets in a tie with
Capitol Hill (Oklahoma City, Okla.), which won 66 in a row between 1952 and 1954. St. Mary's Prep has a shot at topping the state record of 75 by
Homer, which was then the national record set between 2004 and 2005.
The national record of 89 straight wins, set by
Portsmouth (N.H.) between 2008 and 2012, is also within reach.
Several other teams could also be in the hunt for the national record.
Silo (Okla.) ranks No. 18 all-time with 59 straight wins, including a 30-0 season last year. Silo needs seven wins to tie Capitol Hill for the Oklahoma state record.
Meanwhile
Van Meter (Iowa), home of Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller, went 39-0 over the summer to put its overall streak at 54 games in a row.
Two other teams have over 40 straight wins.
Limon (Colo.), which has some of the longest football win streaks in state history, is looking to break the state record of 60 held by
Eaton (Colo.). Limon begins the season with 46 in a row.
South Anchorage (Anchorage, Alaska) already has the state record for consecutive wins and will look to extend its total of 44 in a row.
