Soccer Game Preview: Butler vs. Providence

Butler hasn't had much luck against Providence recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Butler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.6 goals per game this season.

Butler's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Garinger as they made off with a 3-0 victory. Given Butler's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Garinger are ranked 285th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Butler hit Garinger with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Jillian Phoebus, Savannah Kondas, and Olivia Kondas.

Meanwhile, Providence entered their contest against Charlotte Catholic on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Panthers came up short against the Cougars, falling 4-0. The match was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Providence couldn't quite close it out.

Butler has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 33 goals over those eight contests. As for Providence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-7.
