Baseball Game Preview: Herington Railroaders vs. Hillsboro Trojans

The Herington Railroaders are taking a road trip to take on the Hillsboro Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Herington is looking for their season's first victory.

Herington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Wabaunsee on Tuesday, falling 15-7.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hillsboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Smoky Valley 11-10. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Zayne Haslett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Hillsboro let Nash Dickinson and Jaeten Loewen run wild. Dickinson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Loewen scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Dickinson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Ashton Talkington was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Hillsboro's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Herington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
