Basketball Recap: Eastlake Takes a Loss

Eastlake suffered their biggest defeat since November 10, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by the Eastwood Troopers and fell 68-30. The match marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Eastlake lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Braeden Quigley, who posted nine points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Mendez, who put up six points.

Even though they lost, Eastlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Devin Falk-Ramirez was his usual excellent self, going 11 for 18 en route to 29 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks for Eastwood. Those three blocks gave Falk-Ramirez a new career-high. Julien Falk-Ramirez was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and four steals.

Eastlake moved to 19-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. As for Eastwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Eastlake and Eastwood should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Eastlake will challenge Socorro at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 808 places (228 vs. 1036). Eastlake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Eastwood (ranked 143rd) will meet Franklin (ranked 434th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
