Softball Recap: Devils Lake Comes Up Short

Devils Lake extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-5. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grand Forks Central Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Firebirds have suffered since May 6, 2025.

As for Grand Forks Central, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-9 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 11th.

For Grand Forks Central's part, Julia Biby made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Biby was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alaina Marto was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kharleigh Larson, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Devils Lake will face off against rival Horace on Thursday. Meanwhile, Grand Forks Central is set to take on their familiar foe Sheyenne at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
