South Plaquemines wins going away against Jefferson RISE Charter

Recap: South Plaquemines Hurricanes vs. Jefferson RISE Charter

The South Plaquemines Hurricanes had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past Jefferson RISE Charter 28-6. The result was nothing new for South Plaquemines, who have now won six games by 22 points or more so far this season.

Jyheim Williams was the offensive standout of the contest as he gained 123 total yards and two touchdowns. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Alex Phillips was another key contributor, throwing for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Jefferson RISE Charter to a paltry 211 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to South Plaquemines' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Brysten Prout and Richie Espadron who racked up four sacks between them.

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson RISE Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lamar Montross. Despite the final result, he rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.

South Plaquemines' victory was their fifth straight at home , which pushed their record up to 8-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Mentorship Academy and 3-7 Fisher (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.7% over those games). As for Jefferson RISE Charter, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

South Plaquemines will be playing in front of their home fans against Port Barre at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson RISE Charter will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Parkview Baptist at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Parkview Baptist presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jefferson RISE Charter in Louisiana (Parkview Baptist is ranked 81st, while Jefferson RISE Charter is ranked 269th).
